Blueberry Lemonade with Basil

Ingredients
  

Fruit
  • 1 cup blueberries Fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice Juiced from fresh lemons
Sweetener
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated sugar
Liquid
  • 1 cup water For making basil syrup
  • 4 cups cold water For mixing with the lemonade
Herbs
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves Aromatic fresh basil
Extras
  • Ice cubes For serving

Method
 

Create the Basil Syrup
  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup of water. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add fresh basil leaves and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool. Strain out the basil and set the syrup aside.
Puree the Blueberries
  1. In a blender, puree the blueberries until smooth.
  2. Strain through a fine sieve to remove the skins and seeds.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a large pitcher, mix the blueberry puree, lemon juice, and basil syrup.
  2. Add 4 cups of cold water and stir well to combine.
Serve and Garnish
  1. Serve the lemonade over ice and garnish with additional basil leaves and blueberries if desired.

Notes

Make the basil syrup ahead of time to save on preparation during parties. Adjust sweetness according to taste. Store leftover lemonade in the fridge for up to three days, but it’s best enjoyed fresh. Frost glasses for a cooler presentation.
