Ingredients

For the quiche
  • 1 9-inch premade pie crust Use refrigerated premade crust for convenience; blind-bake if you prefer extra crispness
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Use fresh or lightly steamed frozen broccoli; chop into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar yields stronger flavor; mild works for subtler taste
  • 4 large eggs Use room temperature eggs for smoother custard
  • 1 cup milk Whole milk creates richer custard; 2% reduces fat
Seasonings
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste, especially if using salted butter crust
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground for best aroma
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder Adds gentle savory depth
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder Use in place of fresh onion for a cleaner texture

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and press gently to fit the sides evenly.
  3. Prick the bottom and sides of the crust several times with a fork to prevent air pockets.
Mix the custard
  1. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a mixing bowl until the mixture becomes smooth and homogeneous.
  2. Season the custard by stirring in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until evenly distributed.
Assemble and bake
  1. Stir the broccoli florets and shredded cheddar cheese into the egg mixture until combined uniformly.
  2. Pour the filling gently into the prepared pie crust, smoothing the surface with a spatula if necessary.
  3. Bake the quiche for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top develops a golden hue.
  4. Let the quiche cool for a few minutes before slicing, then serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Tips for perfect results: Steam broccoli briefly for 1 to 2 minutes to enhance color. Grate your own cheddar for better melting. Use room temperature eggs and milk for an even custard. To prevent a soggy crust, consider blind-baking the crust for 6 to 8 minutes if needed.
