Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, sauté the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper until tender.
  2. Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the pot and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. If using a slow cooker, transfer the mixture to the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy your classic homemade chili!

Notes

Sauté the vegetables first to build a more profound flavor base for the chili. Use fire-roasted diced tomatoes for added depth. For spicier chili, add diced jalapeños or cayenne pepper.
