Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 oz Penne pasta Alternative: Any pasta shape
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil Alternative: Butter
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced Use fresh for best flavor
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) Crushed tomatoes Alternative: Diced tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 1 cup Heavy cream Alternative: Half-and-half for a lighter sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil Alternative: Fresh basil (use more)
  • to taste Salt and pepper N/A
  • Parmesan cheese For serving, alternative: Pecorino Romano
  • Fresh basil For garnish, optional but recommended

Method

Cooking
  1. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, heavy cream, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the cooked penne to the sauce and toss until the pasta is well coated.
  6. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil on top.

Notes

Always use fresh garlic for the best flavor. Ensure the pasta is al dente since it will continue to cook slightly once combined with the sauce. Consider adding red pepper flakes for a spicier kick. Top with additional fresh basil and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan for added flavor and presentation.
