  • 1 head Cabbage Any variety can be used, but green or savoy is best.
  • 1 pound Ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 cup Shredded cheese Cheddar or mozzarella are recommended.
  • 1 Onion, chopped Sweet onions work well.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Avoid pre-minced for best flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Start with ½ teaspoon each.
  • Olive oil or cooking spray For greasing the baking sheet.

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cut the cabbage into thick slices to create cups.
  3. In a skillet, heat a bit of olive oil over medium heat and cook the onion and garlic until softened.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and cooked through.
  5. Place the cabbage cups on a baking sheet and fill each cup with the beef mixture. Top with shredded cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the cabbage is tender and the cheese is melted.
  7. Serve warm.

Notes

Ensure the cabbage slices are thick enough to hold the filling without falling apart. Experiment with cheese types; pepper jack provides a spicy kick. Grease the baking sheet well to avoid sticking.
