Ingredients

  • 1 lb spicy sausage Use your preferred spicy sausage for more heat.
Rice/Grains
  • 1 cup rice Use long-grain or jasmine rice for best results.
Broth
  • 2 cups chicken broth
Sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Melt before mixing with honey.
Spices
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Toppings
  • to taste chopped green onions Optional for garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, brown the spicy sausage over medium heat until fully cooked.
  2. Remove the sausage and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the rice and toast for a few minutes until slightly golden.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and add the Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stir to combine, then bring to a simmer.
Cooking
  1. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for about 15 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  2. While the rice is cooking, melt the butter and mix with honey in a small bowl.
  3. Once the rice is done, stir in the cooked sausage and drizzle the honey butter over the top.
  4. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

For a creamier texture, try adding a splash of heavy cream before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stove, adding a bit of broth if necessary to revive the dish.
