  • 1 can Kidney beans Drained and rinsed.
  • 1 can Black beans Drained and rinsed.
  • 1 can Diced tomatoes Chopped fresh tomatoes can also be used.
  • 1 Small onion Chopped.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Provides depth and warmth.
  • 1/2 cup Masa harina Thickens the chili.
  • Salt and pepper To taste, enhance flavors.
  • Optional toppings As desired: shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions.

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onions and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in the chili powder and cumin, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add the kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Slowly mix in the masa harina to thicken the chili.
  6. Simmer for at least 30 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally. Adjust thickness with water or broth as needed.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with your choice of toppings.

Notes

Opt for lean ground beef to reduce excess grease. Use fresh garlic and onions for a more aromatic dish. Customize spice levels by adjusting chili powder or adding jalapeños for heat. Let the chili sit for several hours or overnight for even better flavor.
